One of the most effective tools to establish a meaningful spiritual practice, in order to generate Bodhicitta (the awakened heart/mind) we must find a way to extend our practice beyond the meditation cushion, and into every day life. One way to accomplish this is to use the Eight Verses on Mind Training (Lojong), and Seven-Pointed Mind Training written in 12th Century Tibet, by the monk Cekawa. Through Dr. Gianmichael Salvato (Khenpo Gurudas Sunyatananda)'s modern translation of the text, with commentary, we learn to generate what is called “Relative Bodhicitta” — that is to say a compassionate heart — and with practice and realisation, aspire toward generating “Ultimate Bodhicitta” or the “Open, Mindful Heart of Compassion and Wisdom”.
